We appreciate the valuable role of volunteers at our school. We are fortunate to have many volunteers who help out in a variety of ways including activities such as helping students with reading, writing, maths groups, art, swimming, and assisting on excursions.
Talk to your child's classroom teacher if you are interested in helping in any way.
See related links on this page for the 2025 Volunteers Information Sheet and associated training and forms for information on volunteering at our school in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Recently there have been changes to the Blue Card system resulting in parents no longer being exempt from holding a Blue Card in some situations.
For the balance of the 2025 school year, the activities that require a linked valid Blue Card (or Exemption Card) for parent volunteers are:
school swimming assistance
assisting in a class/es that your child is not in
e.g. if you help with a reading group for an additional class to that of a class that your child is in
attendance at overnight camps or activities
Looking ahead to 2026, a school-based decision has been made that all parent volunteers will be required to hold a linked valid Blue Card (or Exemption Card).
Parents do not have to wait until 2026 to commence the process of applying for a Volunteer Blue Card (or Exemption Card), the application process and linking can occur this year which will have you being one step ahead when it comes to volunteering in 2026 (the 2026 MAST Training Key Messages will still need to be completed and we will update this document on our website when it has been released by the department).
There are no changes to all other Volunteers (e.g. extended family, community members, etc.) - a linked valid Blue Card (or Exemption Card) is required before volunteering at our school.
Applying for and Linking of a Blue Card (or Exemption Card)
The process for applying and linking Blue Cards (or Exemption Cards) has significantly improved over the years with the majority of the process now undertaken online.
If you are a valid Blue Card (or Exemption Card) holder but your card has not yet been linked to the school, you simply need to complete the Blue Card Link Form and bring it along with your original photo ID (e.g. Drivers Licence) to the school Office during opening hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm). To verify your identity, the card holder needs to attend in person. Once linked we will progress with the Volunteer process on our end (see Volunteers Information Sheet for full details).
If you are not yet a Blue Card (or Exemption Card) holder the process to apply for a free Volunteer Blue Card is as follows:
you need to hold a Customer Reference Number (CRN) from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) before applying (there is no fee to get a CRN if you do not already have one);
the photo from your TMR product (e.g. Drivers Licence, Proof of Age Card, etc.) cannot be older than 6 years and 11 months. If it is older you need to have it updated prior to applying (there is no fee to have your photo updated);
register online for a Blue Card account then apply for a Blue Card (or Exemption Card). Note - it will not let you finalise this process (for a fee free Volunteer Blue Card) until you have been linked to an organisation. Once you have an online account set up, you will receive an email from Blue Card Services with your Blue Card Account Number.
complete the Blue Card Link Form and bring it along with your original photo ID (e.g. Drivers Licence) to the school Office during opening hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm). To verify your identity, the applicant needs to attend in person.
after your card has been linked to the school by our Office team, you will receive another email from Blue Card Services confirming the link, and requesting that you complete the application process. The process will not progress until you have finalised your application.
by being linked the school will be notified when your Blue Card has been successfully issued to you and we can then progress with the remainder of the Volunteer process on our end (see Volunteers Information Sheet for full details).
To date a large number of volunteers have complete the Blue Card process quickly and successfully. Although a Blue Card can take up to 28 days to process, we have found the majority of cards are being issued within 24-48 hours which is a great turn around.
We understand that it can be difficult for some volunteers to attend during Office hours. Should you not be able to make it to the school during Office opening hours,
contact us to see if we can arrange a suitable time (Monday to Friday) to view your original ID in person.
We thank all of our volunteers for your valuable contribution to our school. You make a difference!
